Working Group on Federated Search
The Working Group on Federated Searching met from February 2008 to February 2009. The task of the Working Group was to plan and implement a pilot for a multi-archives search. Based on the view that centralised data management of description information both requires more complex data management mechanisms and is more costly than separated data management, a portal was planned. The portal was supposed to include a search mechanism that passed on queries to the linked online catalogues and then provided a summary of the number of hits in the form of a link to the result lists in the individual catalogues. As the multi-archives search is basically supposed to be independent of the information systems used in the archives, a solution was sought that did not have to be realised exclusively with scopeArchiv. After a rough concept had been devised the Working Group on Federated Searching disbanded
